College of Medicine Library



Objectives

The library exist to serve the research and medical education needs of the students, faculty and staff of Cebu Doctors’ College of Medicine, Medical Interns, Post Graduate Interns, Resident Physicians, Consultant Staff of Cebu Doctors’ Hospital, Mactan Community Hospital, North General Hospital, and the Cabangahan Outreach Program.

About the Library

The library is located at the ground floor of the Medicine Building. It maintains a collection of relevant periodicals, monographs and reference books in medicine.

As of May 2004, the total collection has reached to 11, 425 volumes of books and bound periodicals.

It adapts the Dewey Decimal Classification System in the organization and arrangement of books and bound periodicals.

Rules and Procedures

General Rules
  1. NO LIBRARY CARD NO ENTRY.
  2. Bags, boxes, envelops (big) and other personal possessions are to be inspected upon entering and leaving the library for security purposes.
  3. Personal possessions shouldn’t be left unattended inside the library. CDU-CM library has no responsibility in case of damage or theft of personal property.
  4. Adhere silence is the first and the most basic rule of CDU-CM library.
  5. Noisy, obnoxious or nuisance patrons: Ask noisy patrons to quiet down. If they refuse,ask them to leave. If they refuse to leave, make a written incidental report against the patron who violates the observance of the rules and regulations of the library.

  8. Anyone sleeping, eating bringing drinks inside the library premises is not allowed in the library.
  9. Students are required to carry their Library card upon entering the library.
  10. Cellular phone ringers must be turned off when entering the library. The library has designated areas to answer and make calls and should be kept to low level conversations.
  11. Unofficial picture taking using digital cameras or mobile phones with built in camera is strictly disallowed. If necessary for project related purposes you may ask permission from any of the Librarians on duty or any library staff.
  12. Patrons are required to comply with copyright regulations when photocopying of books, scanning, table that are not in use. Please throw it in the receptacle or trash bins provided.
  13. photographing, printing or downloading from information resources in print, electronic or any other format.
  14. General Circulation books should be left on the table after using them to avoid misplaced and chairs must be pushed back against the table after using them.
  15. Idle conversations, loud talking, loud laughter, and whistling inside the library is strictly disallowed.
  16. Cleanliness must be observed at all times. Do not leave your scratch papers or any other things on the tables that are not in use. Please throw it in the receptacle or trash bins provided.

Library Card related Information

  1. Secure Library Card from the Circulation Counter. It must be validated every semester.
    Requirements:
    1. 1x1 picture
    2. Study load
  2. Validation will be done during specified time; otherwise a fine of P25.00 will be imposed.
  3. It is non-transferable.
  4. If lost, report immediately to the Circulation in-charge. A new Library Card will be issued upon presentation of affidavit of loss and paying the replacement fee.

Circulation

  1. Medical Students
    General circulating books can be borrowed for two days and renewable for another two days unless requested by some other patrons.
  2. Hospital Staff (residents. PGIs, Interns)
    General circulating books can be borrowed for two days and renewable for another two days provided there has been no prior request by other patrons.

The following types of materials are to be read/used within the library only:

  1. General Reference such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and the like.
  2. Periodicals like newspapers, journals, magazines, clippings, brochures, etc.
  3. Research papers.
  4. Multi Media materials like CD-ROMS, VHS tapes, DVD tapes, etc.

Charging/Borrowing Procedures

  1. General Circulating Books

    1. In borrowing general circulating books, the borrower must present to the person at the loan desk his/her validated Library card together with the book that she/he wants to borrow.
    2. The borrower writes the date, his/her name, course & year on the book card.
    3. The due date is indicated on the date due slip with the name of the borrower and in the validated library card.
    4. After which the book & validated library card are given back to the borrower/student for loan.
  2. The library disclaims any liability for loss or damage of any personal belongings to library patrons.

  4. Students/ Faculty/ Resident/ Consultants can borrow two books a time only.

Returning/Renewal Procedures

  1. The borrower must return the book being borrowed to the loan desk with the validated library card for proper cancellation of his/her name. In case he/she wants it renewed, another due date is marked on the date due slip and on the validated Library Card.
  2. Books must be returned on its due date. If overdue, the fines will be computed and collected. If not paid immediately the borrower’s name will be recorded in the library records and he/she cannot borrow book unless the account is settled.
