Take Good Care

The Cebu Cardiovascular Center has complete non-invasive and invasive facilities for the diagnosis of cardiac and vascular diseases. The Non-invasive Cardiac Laboratory, chaired by Enrico B. Gruet, MD, a cardiologist and the Dean of the Cebu Doctors' College of Medicine, is equipped with computerized equipment for Stress Tests (Treadmill, Thallium, Dobutamine), 2D Echocardiography, Doppler, Carotid Scan and other Peripheral Vascular Duplex Scan Studies (Arterial, Venous, Abdominal Aorta, Renal Artery, Transcranial, Orbital), and Pulmonary Function Tests. All of these tests are done on an out-patient basis.

The Invasive Cardiac Laboratory, headed by Raul D. Lastimosa, MD, a cardiologist, is fully equipped with the state-of-the-art Horizon 9000WS Cardiac System by Mennen Medical, acquired on June 8, 1998, the first one in the Philippines. In this modern laboratory, our cardiologists do diagnostic cardiac catheterization and invasive interventional procedures, like percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, coronary stenting, cardiac pacemaker implantation, etc.

The Chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine is Manuel T. Lim, MD. The other cardiologists on the staff are: Celine T. Aquino, MD, Marlon T. Co, MD, Felix P. Diaz, MD, Cesar G. Estalilla, MD, Victor L. Gonzalez, MD, Edilberto Gozo Jr., MD, Generoso T. Matiga, MD, Lerma R. Noval, MD, Maureen M. Santos, MD, Ramon I. Solano, MD, Edgar H. Tan, MD, Mariano A. Tolentino, MD, Camilo Z. Tomboc, MD, Rogelio B. Yebes, MD, Francisco Chio, Jr., MD, John Viola, MD and Walter Acusar, MD. The Pulmonologists on the staff are: Leon James Young, Jr., MD, Rodolfo Roman T. Bigornia, MD, Crispin Y. Diaz, MD, Evan N. Mendoza, MD, and Albert T. Santos, MD. The General Internal Medicine and Family Medicine specialists are: Jane L. Chua, MD, Estrella S. Huang, MD, Eduardo I. Lee, MD, Jesus T. Lim, MD, Edwin C. Miņoza, MD, Arturo Pascual, MD, Vivien A. Seno, MD, Antonio Tautjo, MD, and Aurora M. Vibar, MD.

Located in the same area in the newly constructed Annex Wing of the Cebu Doctors' Hospital, right across the Cath Lab, is the Cardiovascular Surgery Operating Room. This well-designed suite is equipped with complete facilities for open heart surgery, like the heart-lung machine, heater-cooler unit, intra-aortic balloon machine, cell (blood) saver machine and a host of other cardiovascular instruments and equipment. The Cebu Cardiovascular Center also prides itself in having an HP Merlin state-of-the-art Cardiac Monitoring System in its operating room, the first one in the country. This machine also allows blood tests (hemoglobin/hematocrit, electolytes, BUN, creatinine, blood sugar, and blood gases) to be done instantaneously while cardiac surgery is in progress, virtually eliminating delays in obtaining the results. The Chairman of Cardiovascular Surgery is Philip S. Chua, MD.

After heart catheterization/angioplasty/stenting, or open heart surgery, the patient goes to the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) or to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), which are adjacent to the operating room. These units are equipped with computerized equipment to provide intensive patient monitoring, ventilatory support when needed, cardiac output monitoring, continuous oxygen saturation computerized digital display monitoring, etc.
