History...
The world of Dentistry was vastly improved through leaps and bounds upon the dawning of a new and exciting era in 1980 when the College of Dentistry of then Cebu Doctors’ College was founded.
It became the second dental school in continuous operation in Cebu City and was originally located at the Dentistry-Optometry Building (now known as, Dr. Cecilio Borromeo Medical Building) along Kamuning Street behind the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital under the direction of its first dean, Dr. Genaro Hortelano, DDM, a oral surgeon and a University of the Philippines College of Dentistry graduate. Although the school was considered small by present day standards, it was very well-equipped with the dean’s office and dental infirmary on the ground floor, the Dentistry-Optometry library at the second floor, the lecture rooms such as: prosthetic-restorative dentistry lecture/laboratory rooms, reserved for committees, professional lectures and meetings on the third floor, and the audiovisual room on the fourth floor.
On 1998, Dr. Victor Y. Cui, DMD, a general practitioner and a graduate of the University of the East College of Dentistry, became the second dean of the college. It was during his term on 1994, when the College of Dentistry transferred to its present home, the newly constructed Cebu Doctor’s College Main Building with a much bigger and better facilities.
In accordance with its vision in developing true professionals capable of self-government and dedicated to social services, the College of Dentistry established a clinic for dental interns in Kauswagan Community Hospital in 1987, a branch of the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital situated in Kauswagan, Talamban, Cebu City. Never one to rest on its laurels, the school followed this up with the establishment of another dental facility in Lapu-lapu City in Mactan Community Hospital in 1995.
